farewell butterflies

Yesterday Oliver said goodbye to his five butterflies as he released them into our backyard. After his preschool raised caterpillars in May, I ordered Oliver a butterfly house from Insect Lore
because he had so much fun watching them grow and change in class. The reusable butterfly house came with a coupon to send away for caterpillars, and we can send away for new ones each year. In about two weeks time, we watched the caterpillars change into chrysalides, and finally emerge as Painted Lady butterflies. We kept the butterflies for about a week until we decided they would be happier in our backyard. It was fun to watch them fly out of their house!
