2 Week Update

Week 2 flew by! We can't believe how old he's getting! His umbilical cord fell of last Saturday, he's holding his head up a lot more now, and he's starting to smile :)
This past week he met his grandpa (Gregg) and his aunt (Shannon) for the first time. At family coffee we brainstormed "grandpa" names for my dad. I think it got narrowed down to "Grumps", but ultimately we'll have to see what Oliver decides to call him. My mom flew in Friday night so next week I'll have some pictures of Oliver with his Grandma.
Oliver and I went to a Mom & Baby yoga class on Thursday which was awesome! It is so much easier to do yoga since I'm no longer pregnant and it was fun to see other moms with their babies. At one day shy of two weeks, Oliver was the youngest baby there and slept through the whole class in his car seat.
Nick also got our radiant heat working! Yay! He has been working on the plumbing and wiring for it for the past few weeks during any spare time and my dad helped him run wires for the thermostat while he was here.
Here are some pictures from this past week:

Oliver's visit to Jim & Cynthia's house

On Monday we took Oliver to Jim and Cynthia's house. He missed out on a delicious dinner because he slept through most of the evening.

He started out by taking a nap with Daddy on their couch.

After dinner he finally woke up so Cynthia could play with him.
And Jim sang him lullabies before we left.

Week 1 Update

Our first week with Oliver went really well! And we are so in love with him! Every day he is more and more awake which is really fun. The last two nights he has slept in four hour segments at night, meaning we only have to get up once. One of his favorite things is taking naps with Nick and I. He sleeps so soundly when we're lounging in bed and makes the cutest faces when we try to wake him up.
Last night he met Jim and Cynthia for the first time, and today he made his debut at family coffee. We've ventured out for walks (weather permitting) and for errands a few times. Nick is planning on going back to work for a few days next week.

Day 5

Here are a few shots from today, plus a video of Nick and Oliver napping this morning.

40 weeks!

Today is my official due date and here is Oliver, 5 days old now! He is doing great! We met his doctor yesterday for a quick check up. He was weighed and measured, but no shots until next time. She said he was perfect! Today we visited my office and went grocery shopping. He then spent most of the day napping.

Oliver, Days 1-3

We've been enjoying life with Oliver so much! He is such a cutie pie that it makes all the middle of the night diaper changes and feedings worth it. As long as we're holding him, or he's wrapped up in his Moby wrap, he's been pretty easy to take care of. The Moby wrap has been wonderful since it allows us to do things around the house with him comfortably tied to our chest. And it puts him right to sleep.

The weather here cooled down at least 10 degrees while we were in the hospital and our first night home was very cold since we don't yet have our heat working. Oliver spent much of the night with us since our body heat helped him stay warm. Yesterday Nick picked up a few heaters so our house is much more comfortable while he works on the heat. We also took our first outing with Oliver to run a few errands and took a short walk with Penny.

Typing is a bit difficult since I don't have two hands free while feeding Oliver so email and blog posts may be a bit slow. Feel free to call us anytime. We're up all day, and luckily Oliver can sleep through any noise so far, including Penny barking or squeaking her toys. And if you want to Skype us, just let us know.

Tomorrow Oliver has his first check-up. I'm guessing he hasn't lost much weight, if any, since he's far been exceeding the number of wet and poopy diapers he's supposed to be having.

Here are some pictures from the hospital and our first days at home.

39 Week, 2 Days!

October 8, 2009
Adriane came home from her weekly doctor's appointment at 11:30 am and was 1cm dilated. That was exciting news, finally progress.
Next thing we know it's 5:30 pm, Adriane starts having what she thinks are mild contractions, close together, about 8 minutes apart, lasting about 45 seconds.
9:00 The contractions have been occurring for a few hours. Roughly the same intensity and same time between contractions. We were both convinced it was false labor. We were so sure there was no way the baby was going to come early. I mean we had plans for all the things that needed to get done next week, so we went to bed. We called our doula and she said to call back in a couple of hours if the contractions hadn't stopped.
9:45 I'm asleep, Adriane definitely is not. Adriane thinks the contractions have started getting stronger, and lasting a bit longer but she's not sure. We still aren't convinced it's actual labor. Either way we decide we should try to get come rest. Easier for me than for her
10:30 Adriane is still having contractions, but still isn't sure if they are getting stronger. We call the doula back, she says to call her again in an hour or so.
October 9, 2009
12:00 am. The contractions are definitely getting stronger, and closer together. We call the doula, and she heads over.
12:30 the doula arrives. Adriane is definitely in labor and the contractions are getting very painful.
1:00 We call Kim-Marie Motada and Scott Marvin (the world's best real estate agents and dog breeders) they come over at 1:30 am and pick up Penny.
2:00 We pack up the car.
2:30 we head to the hospital
3:00 We arrive at the hospital and get checked in. Adriane is already 6 cm dilated! She spends the next 2 hours in the tub trying to cope with her now very intense contractions.
5:30 Adriane gets out of the tub, gets checked, and continues labor on the bed. She's now at 8-9 cm.
5:45 She starts pushing! It's the most intense thing I've ever experienced, I can only imagine what she was going through, especially since she managed to do it all natural. No drugs of any kind!
After 13 hours of labor at 6:43 a.m. the worlds most perfect baby boy is born:
Oliver Winston Villanueva
7 Lbs 11 oz
20 3/4" long

39 Weeks!

Less than a week to go now until my due date! I can't believe it! Although Nick thinks October 19th will be the big day. My doctor happens to be on call that day, so I would be okay with that. Not that I get to choose or anything. My doctor appointment went well today. I'm 1 cm dilated now and she was able to touch the baby's head, which made him kick! I'm just glad I finally made a little progress. I've been exhausted this week but other than that, everything is great.

Tomatoes

Here are a few of the tomatoes I recently picked from our little plants. Earlier this summer Nick was sure we wouldn't get any because these plants have been through a lot. We moved with them so they got planted way too late, then they sat in the middle of a construction zone and some of them got splattered with paint primer. But we did end up getting quite a few tomatoes. And so far they've all been delicious!

Basket

Last night I started teaching Penny to put her toys away in her toy basket. Here's how it looks the next day:

Baby Kicking

Here's a video that I forgot to upload a few weeks ago. I'm 37 weeks here, and I was finally able to catch the baby kicking on camera. Here's one big kick! Nick is reading "Robinson Crusoe" to him in the background while Penny sleeps.

38 Weeks!

We're almost there! Now that it's October, we can finally say our son will be here this month! We're both getting very excited. Nick hopes he doesn't have to wait too long.
I had a Dr. appointment today, with a different doctor since mine is out of town. Luckily she'll be back this weekend and then has no vacations planned for the rest of the month. No new news at the appointment, meaning, no signs of labor. I'm not exactly surprised, and I hope he waits until at least October 12th, when our doctor, doula, and Kim-Marie (who is watching Penny) will finally be in town at the same time.
I'm still working full time and hope that by the end of next week things slow down so that I may get to start taking a few days off. I am exhausted and definitely not sleeping well at night. I can't wait to have a few days (hopefully) to relax and get a bunch of things done before he arrives.
