20 Weeks!

Here is a picture of me right after our 20 week ultrasound (pictures below). I'm 20 weeks and 1 day today, so I just past the halfway point! Yippee! The ultrasound was fun. Nick picked me up from work and we went over around noon today. The doctor had nothing but good news for us. We got to see him swallow and punch himself in the face (definitely a boy!). It was neat watching the screen because I could feel him move at the same time I was watching him!

Insulation

Nick finished the insulation today, and had the inspection. The top picture is the insulation in our garage ceiling, and the bottom picture is our kitchen. Jim is sending a few guys over tomorrow to start the drywall. It will look so different when we finally have real walls! Although it is much easier to keep an eye on Penny when I can stand in one spot and see the entire floor.

Baby Kicking

“I can feel the baby kicking.” by Zachary <span class=
Nick was able to feel the baby kick for the first time yesterday! I've been feeling him on the outside for at least a week, but it's been hard to find a time where he's kicking and Nick is around. I feel him move a lot during the day now, which is awesome!

Inspections

We're 4 for 4! Nick took the morning off in order to have the electrical, gas, plumbing and structural inspections done, and we passed all of them, with flying colors! Now it's on to insulation (of which our house had NONE when we bough it) and drywall.

House Update - plumbing and electrical

Here are a few pictures of what we've been working on the past few weeks. We're hoping to have inspections done this week, and start the drywall at the beginning of next week. Penny is going to miss being able to walk through all the walls!

This is the radiant heat in the basement ceiling. I've been responsible for putting up all the fins on the orange pipe.

This is the manifold Nick installed. It's basically our plumbing headquarters. I like the colors of the pex, because it makes it easy to tell which is hot and cold water! Plus, our ceiling is really colorful right now, with the red, blue and orange pipe running all over.

Here are a few of the recessed lights Nick put in. We have a total of 30! That equals a lot of light bulbs!

18 weeks 4 days

Here I am today, getting ready to go over to Jim & Cynthia's for pizza night. Nick went too, even though it was after his 6pm bedtime. You just can't miss pizza night when it's sunny and warm until 9pm in Seattle. I must have had an empty stomach in this picture, because my belly looks smaller than last week. The clothes I wear also tend to make me look bigger/smaller. I'm also wearing a pair of maternity capris in the picture, and the belly panel covers most of my stomach. They seem to work better then the other pants that only have a small panel at the waist band, which fall down easily. When I wear them, I feel like I spend the whole day pulling up my pants!

House update coming soon.

Outside Influences on the Womb

I was reading about the fifth month of pregnancy in What to Expect When You're Expecting, a book I borrowed from a friend of mine. I came across a section titled Outside Influences on the Womb. It mostly talks about the baby being able to hear my voice and the voice of others around me now. It also touches on the whole theory of playing music for the baby. But what really got my attention what he paragraph on dogs! It says "Your fetus can also hear other sounds from the outside world, and may become familiar with those that are common in your surroundings. Whereas a newborn who has had little prenatal exposure to a barking dog may startle and cry at first hearing the sound, one who's heard a lot of barking won't even blink." That's great news! He definitely will be hearing lots of barking in the next few months. Will our baby find Penny's voice soothing? Maybe he'll be able to sleep through her barking. That would be nice :)

17 weeks again

I guess some of you wanted to see what I looked like at 17 weeks, not just Nick! I had my monthly OBGYN appointment yesterday. It consisted of peeing in a cup, getting weighed, and listening to the baby's heartbeat :) Everything else is going great, especially now that my asthma has gone away. I've been feeling the baby move for about a week now. It's just a light flutter, but it's so cool! I can't wait for Nick to be able to feel it too.
